Hony Premlal is a trailblazing leader, a tireless advocate for inclusion, and a fearless champion of women in housing. She arrived in the UK in 1993 with limited English and has gone on to become a managing director and chair of multiple organisations. Hony’s journey is defined by resilience, authenticity and a passion for empowering others.
Now founder and chief executive of Hony Premlal Consultancy, she mentors women across the sector – many of whom have stepped into senior leadership roles. As chair of both Women in Social Housing (WISH) London and Eldon Housing Association, and a board member at multiple housing organisations, she continues to influence policy, equity and leadership across the UK.
In 2024, Hony delivered 23 keynote speeches, produced a podcast series spotlighting women’s leadership, and led events aligned with Black History Month and the UN’s campaign to end violence against women. She has contributed to housing publications and chaired major national panels, and remains a strong role model for aspiring female leaders, particularly those from Black and ethnic minority backgrounds.
The judges said:
“Hony’s journey from a small Indian village to an executive role in UK housing is truly inspiring. As chair of Eldon Housing and WISH London, she champions diversity, governance and inclusion, ensuring diverse voices are heard”
