Lizzie Williams – Poplar HARCA
Working with Poplar HARCA’s IT team and the smart home technology company Aico, Lizzie Williams has played a leading part in the roll-out of new sensor technology is leading the way in housing innovation. As of 2025, she has led the roll-out of HomeLINK smart technology to a staggering 79% (4,092) of Poplar HARCA tenants’ homes. The environmental sensors monitor air quality and carbon monoxide levels, detect leaks and serve as smoke detectors. This data provides both tenants and Lizzie’s team with early detection of repair issues and valuable insights into their living environment, so that action can be taken straight away.
Lizzie has used data to evidence the multiple efficiencies that investment in smart tech will have; her analysis of smoke detector data, for example, generated significant savings for her employers. Lizzie’s commitment to transparency and progress extends across the housing sector at a national scale. With Aico, she facilitated and took part in a BBC documentary showcasing how smart devices can be used to combat damp and mould in tenants’ homes.
Lizzie demonstrated exceptional leadership and courage by facilitating this media piece, advocating for an open, solutions-focused approach.
